NEWS RELEASE

UNION CAB

*************************
After endless hours spent in communication with the Chief of Police Robert Keetch we have agreed to accept a two-day suspension Sunday February 14th and Monday February 15th Family Day.

Although we are still of the position it is unjust, out of consideration for our valued customers we have agreed in order to at least minimize the effect on our employees, wheelchair accessible clients, valued clients, thousands of citizens of Sault Ste. Marie, and our business well being.

We are thankful that we can transport our nearly 100 children to school as part of their regular routine come Tuesday February 16, 2016.

As a very concerned owner of Union Cab I am personally contacting all the parents to let them know.

We will continue with the relationships we have built with our Dialysis clients providing them with the compassionate care they deserve.

With the employment situation in Sault Ste. Marie not healthy, I couldn’t imagine this issue not being mutually resolved.

I have a new level of respect for our Chief of Police Robert Keetch, as these types of decisions are never easy.

As an owner of Union Cab I assume responsibility for any miscommunication that happened between my employees and inquiring clients; which in turn led to a harsh suspension.

I continue to be thankful for the dedication and concern that my employees portray even over the past couple stressful weeks for them.

I live by standards of helping others and am proud to say that Union Cab employees share this trait.

I believe with every negative becomes an opportunity, in that I mean - the Taxi By-law needs to be modernized to recognize an appropriate mechanism for complaints so that they don't escalate and lead to something like we experienced.

I now believe that we can support one another as a community in moving forward to ensure the citizens are always the most important reason that we chose the business were in.

In recent conversations with Chief Robert Keetch and Cst Henry Jin I feel confident that a process will be put in place to allow us to focus on the importance of our business “helping and caring about our clients”, including regular and effective communication by the SSMPSB who regulates our industry.

I am very proud as an owner of Union Cab to have been given this opportunity to learn and grow, I stand behind my words of “helping and caring about the community”, Union Cab is the only company in the Sault to offer more than a Wheelchair Accessible Taxicab for hire 24-hours per day, we also have two additional enhanced wheelchair accessible vehicles; which is where the confusion originated.

I look forward to working with the accessibility coordinator to better the understanding of transportation services for our mobility restricted citizens.

I want to thank the many people who have reached out with feedback over the suspension.

I believe the City and the citizens will continue to support us to continue to be proactive in bettering access to quality, accessible transportation in and around Sault Ste Marie.

We will continue to uphold the highest standards to our important community members in providing safe, efficient and reliable transportation services.

All of us at Union Cab take this opportunity to thank our many valued customers for their ongoing support and business!
