Union, ARCH reach tentative agreement

A tentative collective agreement has been reached between Unifor Local 1359 and ARCH Hospice. 

The target date for a ratification vote is Sept. 9, according to Unifor Local 1359 President Cathy Humalamaki. 

“We’re feeling positive,” said Humalamaki. “It was a lot of work.”

The tentative agreement was reached in the early hours of Thursday morning, following three days of talks that began Monday.  

Union members at the hospice voted 85 per cent in favour of strike action May 1.  

“Both parties worked very, very hard together,” said said Humalamaki. “It was a great round of bargaining, the last three days.” 

Unifor Local 1359 represents roughly 38 healthcare workers at the palliative care facility.
