Two wildfires in Sault area under control, but still burning

A pair of wildland fires in the Sault area, which includes one near Ojibway Park east of the city, are under control as of this evening though they are still burning at this point.

Sault Ste. Marie 5, which started on May 9 near Ojibway park and affected traffic on Highway 17B for a period, is currently 40 hectares in size and under control.

Sault Ste. Marie 4, located north of Blind River, also started on May 9. The fire is currently 27.7 hectares in size and is under control.

Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services reported four new wildland fires in the northeast region by late this afternoon.

There are currently 18 active fires across the area.
