Two Saultites arrested on kiddy porn charges (updated)

Sault Ste. Marie Police Service is announcing at this hour the arrests of two local men and one from Sudbury on charges related to a child pornography investigation.

Ronald Byron Vye, 62 of 606 McNabb Street, Apartment 1 and Guy Russell Renault, 53, of 311 Maretta Street in Sault Ste. Marie have been charged with possession of child pornography and making child pornography available.

Also charged with the same offences is Brian Gringel, 54, of Sudbury.

The following news release was isse by City Police:

************************ Beginning in October 2008, officers from the Sault Ste. Marie Police Services Technological Crime Unit have undertaken a proactive investigation into persons possessing and distributing child pornography.

As a result of this investigation, search warrants were developed for suspects in both Sudbury and Sault Ste Marie.

On Monday, acting on information from the Sault Ste, Marie Technological Crime Unit, officers from the Greater Sudbury Police Service Cyber Crime Unit executed a search warrant on a Sudbury-area residence.

Yesterday, officers from Sault Ste. Marie Police Service Technological Crime Unit, Greater Sudbury Police Service Cyber Crime Unit, and members of the Ontario Provincial Police Child Sexual Exploitation Section with assistance of the Street Team and the Emergency Services Unit executed four separate search warrants within this city.

Several computers and numerous data were seized.

As result,the following three males were arrested:

- Ronald Byron Vye, age 62 of 606 McNabb Street Apartment 1, Sault Ste. Marie.

- Guy Russell Renault, age 55, 311 Maretta Street, Sault Ste. Marie.

- Brian Gringel, age 54 of Sudbury.

All three have been charged with the following offences:

- Possession of child pornography.

- Make available child pornography.

Ronald Vye and Guy Renault are to appear in bail court today.

Since this investigation began, seven separate search warrants for the seizure of child pornography have been executed, including one in Sudbury.

A total of five arrests have been made.

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service is part of the Ontario Provincial Strategy to Protect Children On-Line from Sexual Exploitation.

This project is possible because of a funding grant from the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services.
