Two new forest fires confirmed in the north

Of the new fires, one is under control while the other is being observed

A pair of new forest fires have been confirmed in the north as of Wednesday evening.

Sault Ste. Marie 14, located north of Iron Bridge, is currently under control at 0.1 of a hectare while Cochrane 27, located east of Peawanuck in the northern portion of the province, is currently being observed at 0.2 of a hectare.

There are currently 11 active fires in the region, one of which is under control while the other 10 are being observed.

The fire hazard is low to moderate for the most part in the region, though areas near Wawa, Chapleau, Foleyet, north of Cochrane, and west of Hearst are showing a high hazard today.
