Two men facing multiple weapons charges denied bail

Two of the three men facing multiple weapons offences after a recent arrest in a central Sault Ste. Marie residence have been denied bail while they await trial.

Andrew Petts, age 31, and 29-year-old Joshua Roess were arrested along with 53-year-old John Giuliani on Jan. 26 at a residence on Manilla Terrace. Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service had been investigating a report of men pushing a dirt bike down the street nearby, around Alexandra and Andrew streets.

Petts and Roess each appeared in bail court by video from the Algoma Remand and Treatment Centre for two separate bail hearings on Tuesday broadcast from the Algoma Remand and Treatment Centre.

The three men are facing separate trials.

In a recent police release, Sault Police said officers suspected the dirt bike was stolen and the investigation eventually led to a residence on Manilla Terrace, where firearms and ammunition were discovered.

The three men are each facing a charge of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, as well as numerous weapons offences. Of the three, only Roess is facing drug trafficking charges. 

Roess is charged with:
• Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
• Breach of Probation – Failing to Keep the Peace and be of Good Behaviour
• Possession of a Firearm or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order x18
• Careless Use or Storage of a Firearm, Weapon or Ammunition x2
• Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose x2
• Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm x2
• Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking x3

Petts is charged with:
• Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
• Breach of Probation x4
• Possession of a Firearm or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order x3
• Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm x2
• Knowingly Possession a Weapon or Prohibited Advice x2
• Careless Use or Storage of a Firearm, Weapon or Ammunition x3
• Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose x2
• Possession of Firearm or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order x3

Giuliani, who is facing 10 charges, was previously released on a $2,000 bond.

Guiliani is charged with: 
• Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
• Resisting Peace Officer
• Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm x2
• Careless Storage of a Firearm, Weapon or Ammunition x3
• Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose x2

Petts will attend video remand on March 9, while Roess’ next appearance is on Feb. 23. Guiliani will next appear in court on Feb. 27.
