Two Elliot Lake men have been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the weekend death of 62-year-old Fernand Gilles Gagnon.

The following news release was issued today by Ontario Provincial Police:

***************************** OPP charge two in Elliot Lake murder

(Elliot Lake, Ontario) – Members of the East Algoma Elliot Lake Ontario Provincial Police detachment have arrested and charged two men in connection with the death of an Elliot Lake man in his home last week.

Fernand Gilles Gagnon, 62, was found dead late Saturday

(Feb. 21, 2003) afternoon after OPP officers responded to a request from a family member to check on his well being.

He had not been seen or heard from since Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2004.

Charged with first degree murder, forcible confinement and break and enter are Derek William Roach, 26, of Willoughby Road, and Aaron Bedford, 29, of Dunn Road, both of Elliot Lake.

The accused are scheduled to appear in court today in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.

The investigation is continuing by members of the East Algoma Elliot Lake OPP, under the direction of A/Detective Inspector Tim Millar, OPP Criminal Investigation Branch.
