Danny Trevisanut will be donating 100 per cent of money raised from Trevisanut’s Barbershop this Thursday to ARCH Hospice.

The Steelton-based barber says the idea for the fundraiser was the result of a flood of emotions that overtook him after learning that six-year-old Kayge Fowler had lost his battle with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG), an aggressive brainstem tumour, this past May.

“That wasn’t a good weekend for me,” said Trevisanut, speaking to SooToday at his shop Saturday. “Anybody that’s...got to bury their own babies, that affects me in a way, and I don’t know where to put that stuff - so I just keep it inside.”

Trevisanut posted a heartfelt video to social media in late July in order to announce his ARCH fundraiser.

“For me it came down to the ARCH, because that’s the way it rolled out of my mouth,” he said. “It was sincere, and it was earnest.”

Trevisanut says that he’s walked through the doors of the hospice three of four times in the past 12 years to visit loved ones at ARCH.

“I thought of someone that I lost at the ARCH, and I think of all the families that got to care for palliative loved ones,” he said. “And then conversely, I think of my own son, my own daughter and the blessings I have.”

Trevisanut is hoping to be busy at his shop, located at 352 Wellington Street West, when Thursday morning rolls around.

“I hope it’s a good turnout,” he said. “This is the first time actually creating an event like this, so I feel really good about it.”

“It’s going to be busy that day, it’s most likely going to be a congested day. If people want to come in and donate something on that day, and not before, that would be appreciated too,” Trevisanut continued. “As far as the congestion in here on that day, the difference between treading six feet of water or 60 feet of water - I still got to move my arms and legs the same way, so I’m looking forward to this.”

Trevisanut’s Barbershop will be taking clients from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for the Aug. 15 fundraiser.
