The Town of Blind River has been chosen as one of 14 nationwide funding recipients from the Jays Care Foundation, the charitable arm of the Toronto Blue Jays Baseball Club.

A news release issued today by the club states that the organization is investing in infrastructure projects to the tune of more than $1 million this year through its Field Of Dreams program to benefit Canadian youth.

"Fourteen organizations across seven provinces will receive funding to build, enhance, and refurbish baseball diamonds where children and youth develop important life skills and learn from positive role models," the release says.

“After a remarkably difficult year, we hope that today’s announcement will provide something for families in these communities to celebrate and look forward to. We are pleased to help organizations across the country build exciting, new spaces for children and youth to reconnect once it is safe to do so,” said Jays Care Foundation Executive Director Robert Witchel in the release.

Other municipalities and organizations across Canada chosen for the 2021 program include the Diamond Dawgs Baseball Club in Dartmouth, N.S.; the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in St. Mary's, Ont.; the Town of Gananoque in Ontario; the West Hill Baseball League in Toronto, Ont.; and the Beaumont Minor Baseball Association in Beaumont, Alta.
