Dr. Roberta Bondar was among several VIPs who attended the official opening of the third annual Sault Ste. Marie Science Festival.

The ceremony was held at the Ontario Finnish Resthome on North Street.

The opening ceremony included a display of fascinating insects from Entomica, the Sault's own insectarium - the first in Canada that has been federally approved to move its exotic insects outside of its secure location.

The insects are a surprisingly big hit with seniors at the retirement homes they visit.

Dr. Bondar said that, at one time, she thought of insects as creepy crawlies but her work at Sault Ste. Marie bug lab changed that perception. She also praised the value of Entomica in the city.
