Yes, it's now spring.

We know that because the highway to Wawa is starting to fill with hitchhikers.

Young people by the hundreds, setting out with grand dreams of seeing the country.

Of course, they'll all end up spending the rest of their lives in Wawa, living in the shadow of an oversized goose, married to local waitresses.

Here's the official word from the Ontario Provincial Police.

**************************** Watch out for this unexpcted traffic hazard Heyden, Ont. - As we enter another weekend of snow covered roadways and a mixed bag of winter weather it has become evident that even the hitchhikers are pushing for early spring weather.

In the police field, one of the sure signs that perhaps spring is just around the corner is the sudden influx of the "cross Canada" hitchhikers that appear to pop out of the snow banks like an early spring tulip.

This past week has seen a small number of the adventurous travelers soliciting there desire for a gratuitous ride to anywhere in western Canada on Highway 17.

Most of them have wintered in the southern Ontario cities where there is no snow and now are headed to destinations unknown.

What most have forgotten is, that even though the green grass of British Columbia may be the beckoning their call; the areas in between are still snow bound with more snow on the way.

You will start seeing a steady increase in these people standing in some unusual and perhaps dangerous areas.

As we enter this years "spring" school break (with another winter storm!) watch out for pedestrians in all the places you haven’t seen them in all winter.
