NEWS RELEASE
JANUARY JAM NIGHT
*************************
Not even a fresh blanket of snow could keep local music fans away from Saturday evening’s January Jam night for The United Way at The Marconi Event Centre. 250 guests came out to watch local bands UK-69, Retro, The VIneS, RPM and Encore perform hits from the 60s to today’s Top 40.

All proceeds raised from ticket sales went directly to The United Way.

“Thank you so much. The United Way appreciates all of you taking the time and braving the elements to come out to support a great local cause. All of the money stays local and I was just told that this event raised $3500 for our local chapter so give yourselves a round of applause” said Rayna Evoy, Fundraising Manager for the Sault Ste. Marie and Algoma chapter of The United Way.

The participating musicians were mostly comprised of Roberta Bondar Ontario Public Service and OLG employees. “It was great to get our first show under our belts,” said Kevin Roberts, Manager MGCS and guitarist for Retro. “This is something that we always wanted to do and partnering with The United Way made it so worthwhile. I’m proud of my bandmates tonight.”

The organizing committee would like to thank all those that attended as well as our sponsors - The Marconi Event Centre, Long and McQuade, OPSEU and AMAPSEO. Our next event, United We Jam! – An Evening of Musicultural Diversity will be held on Saturday, Feb. 22, at The Marconi Event Centre.
