They're building a new 3,600-square-foot studio/office building across the river for Robbie Bateson, Sault Ste. Marie's reigning Diva of Rock.

And Sovereign Communications announced today that Mark SanAngelo and Alli J. and Jimmy D. and the rest of the Rock 101/WSOO crew will allowed to hang out there with Rockin' Robbie, too.

Heck, even Tom Ewing might be allowed around Robbie's new place once in a while.

Actually, the new owners of Rock 101 and WS00 1230 announced that both stations will be moving to a new location at the top of Ashmun Hill, to a facility more than twice the size of their current operation.

Here's the official news release:

************************ After 30 years at the current location near their broadcast tower on the Mackinaw Trail, 1230 WSOO and Rock 101 radio are returning to the city of Sault Ste. Marie.

Sovereign Communications announced today that an agreement has been signed to build new state-of-the-art broadcast facilities at the current location of BC Pizza at the top of Ashmun Hill.

The 3,600 square foot building will be completely remodeled to include five broadcast and recording studios, conference facilities, and a complete suite of business offices.

Sovereign Communications President Bill Gleich commented, "We couldn’t be more excited about this new location. It will allow our growing company to be much more connected to the community we serve as well as provide room for future expansion, and a wonderful new environment for our staff, clients and listeners for many years."

Vice President /General Manager Tom Ewing said, "After 65 years of serving Sault Ste. Marie, it is only fitting that the radio stations be in the heart of the city. I think our veteran staff, our loyal listeners and the customers with which we work will find the Ashmun hill location a great choice."

Sovereign Communications has owned 1230 WSOO and Rock 101 for just over a year and has spent much of that time looking at many possible locations for their new facility.

The Ashmun Street location was chosen for its high visibility, central location, ample parking and easy access for advertising clients and listeners.

The new facilities will be nearly two and a half times the size of their current operations.

Construction of the new studios and offices is expected to take approximately 90 days.

The company hopes to be broadcasting from the new site sometime in May, and plans to celebrate its grand opening in combination with WSOO's 65th anniversary in June.
