Spencer and Erica Hogan started the Piper Project after the loss of their daughter, Piper Marie Hogan in October 2020.

The Piper Project is back for its second year, collecting books for the Sault Area Hospital's Women and Children unit.

The collected books will go home with new babies born at the hospital, to spark a love of reading early in life.

The project was started after the loss Spencer and Erica Hogan's second child, who was named Piper.

The full press release about the project, as well as a link to the drop off locations for donations, is included below.

For the second year, The Piper Project will have their month-long book collection!

The Piper Project was created by Spencer and Erica Hogan of Hogan's Homestead in October 2020 when they welcomed and said goodbye to their second born daughter Piper Marie Hogan. Since her passing, the couple along with the support of friends and family, have been collecting new books for the Sault Area Hospital, Women and Children Unit so every new baby born can go home with a book to spark the love of reading. Since the start of this project, they have collected 2,000 new books for the Hospital along with almost 5,000 preloved books that are given out to children in our community through the Piper Project Pre-Loved Libraries that you can find throughout town!

This year the Project is looking for support in new and preloved book donations to celebrate what would of been Piper's Second Birthday in October. The Goal is to collect just 10 new books a day in the month of October 2022 which will total 310 books for the entire month. This year they will also look to collect 310 preloved children's books from 0- teen reader to continue to fill their preloved libraries.

With the support of the community, you will be able to drop off your book donations not only to the Hogan's Homestead Gift Shop located at 536 Second Line West during business hours. You can also find drop off locations at some community events hosted by Algoma Maker Markets at the Halloween Market and the Oktoberfest Market.
