The Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum at Whitefish Point will recognize the 45th anniversary of the Edmund Fitzgerald's final voyage, that ended with the vessel sinking off of Whitefish Bay while attempting to cross Lake Superior while transporting iron ore.

The entire 29-member crew died after the 729-foot vessel went down on the evening of Nov. 10, 1975.

The museum says its annual memorial event will go virtual this year due to COVID-19 restrictions in Michigan.

According to social media posts from the museum, this year's ceremony will be livestreamed in its entirety by 9&10 News beginning at 7 p.m.

More information on the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald can be found on the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum website
