The best and brightest young robot lovers (9 photos)

Winners from Saturday's robotics qualifying event go on to provincial championship in February, then possibly world championship in April

Gifted, young high school robotics enthusiasts gathered for the fourth annual Northern Ontario VRC Robotics Qualifying Event at Sault College’s Health and Wellness Centre Saturday.

No less than 21 teams from eight secondary schools in the Sault and area, along with an independent team of teens known as Lone Wolf Robotics, took part in Saturday’s event, in which their robotic creations were scored on how well they performed certain tasks.

The top four teams from Saturday’s competition will go on to the Ontario Provincial Championships, to be held in St. Catherines Feb. 24.

The VEX Robotics World Championship will be held in Louisville, Kentucky in April.

Admission to the event was free, sponsored by Tenaris Algoma Tubes, Algoma District School Board, Sault College, Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO) and the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists.

Volunteers helped organize and manage the event.
