ESPANOLA – On Dec. 6, 2016 at 11:37 p.m., members from the Espanola Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a two vehicle fatal motor vehicle collision on Highway 17, west of the Town of Massey.

Investigation indicates that an eastbound moving van crossed the centre line and collided with an oncoming westbound passenger vehicle.

As a result of the collision, two persons from the passenger vehicle were killed and two passengers from the same vehicle were transported to hospital by Emergency Medical Services (EMS) with serious injuries. The driver of the moving van was also transported to hospital by EMS with serious injuries.

The driver of the passenger car, Michelle Dumais, 41 years of age, and the front passenger, Keith O’Malley, 44 years of age, both from Elliot Lake were pronounced dead at the scene.

In the same vehicle, both rear passengers, Bradley Dumais, from Elliot Lake and Kayleb Venne of Espanola, both 16 years of age, remain in hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the moving van, George Kletter, 71 years of age, from Etobicoke, also remains in hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

The investigation is ongoing with the assistance of the OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators (TTCI).
