Teen charged in two local robberies

********************* At approximately 6 p.m. last evening, officers from the Criminal Investigation Unit arrested a 16-year-old youth in relation to the follwing incidents.

The youth was arrested without further incident at a residence in the 100 block of Wellington Street East.

The accused has been charged with two counts of robbery and will be appearing in court this morning.

News release 14th of November 2005

City Police are investigating a robbery that occurred on the 13th of November at the Eastside Confectionary at 67 Eastern Avenue. Two males entered the store just before 8:30 p.m. and both pulled a knife on the lone clerk working in the store. The thieves made off with 10 king-size packages of Dumaurier cigarettes and an undisclosed small amount of cash. The suspects fled the area on foot. The clerk was not harmed. The white male suspect was carrying a blue and white pillowcase. One male is described as being white, with blonde curly hair, acne scars, approximately 5’5” tall, slim build and around 16-17 years of age. He was wearing a white hooded sweatshirt and jeans with "FUBU" on back. The second male is native, had dark, short hair, about 18 years old, clean shaven, 5'10" tall. He was wearing a dark blue hooded sweatshirt.

Just after 9 p.m. last night City Police attended at the Highway Variety Store located at 883 Trunk Road for an attempted robbery. It is alleged that two youths between 14 and 15 years old entered the store. The youths had small kitchen-style knives but did not point them at the clerk. The youths argued with the clerk but fled the store empty-handed. The youths are both described as being skinny, between 5'6" tall and 5'7" tall, both wore navy hoodies and one had a black mask with grey on it. It is believed that one youth wore a black balaclava. There is no further description of the suspects. The youths fled the store and ran across Trunk Road and across the train tracks. City Police were assisted by the OPP and the Anishinabek Police in their search for the suspects but were unsuccessful in locating the youths.
