The Sault Ste. Marie Teen Centre announced today that its new home will be in leased premises in the former St. Mary's Annex owned by the Huron Superior Catholic District School Board.

The centre will close today to begin the move to 376 Cathcart 5treet, Executive Director David Lind (shown in a SooToday.com file photo) said in a news release.

The new location offers several advantages over the existing site, Lind said. "There is a big gym for indoor sporting activities, a large green space for outdoor activities and most importantly numerous classrooms for structured programming."

The centre will re-open on October 2, Lind said.

The following is the full text of the news release issued this morning by David Lind, the Teen Centre's executive director:

**************************************************************** The Sault Ste. Marie Teen Centre has found a new home

The Sault Ste. Marie Teen Centre has secured a new home for the teens of the community.

The move was necessitated by the sale of their current building to the St. Vincent De Paul Society.

While the current location served its purpose the teens were severely restricted in the types of activities they could partake in, given the centre lacked adequate gym space, classrooms and an outdoor area for sporting activities.

Their new location at 376 Cathcart 5t. offers everything the current site lacked.

There is a big gym for indoor sporting activities, a large green space for outdoor activities and most importantly numerous classrooms for structured programming.

The site is the former St. Mary's Annex, owned by the Huron Superior Catholic District School Board and is being leased by the Sault Ste. Marie Teen Centre.

While terms of the lease will not be disclosed, they are such that the Teen Centre shall remain a viable entity in the community.

We can now begin the process of redeveloping programs, establish the much-needed partnerships with other agencies and groups working with teens in the community.

This is an exciting day for the Teen Centre, we can now more adequately service the needs of the teens in the community.

The Teen Centre will be closing Wednesday September 24, 2003 to facilitate the move and be re-opening on October 2, 2003 in our new location.

A grand opening will be planned sometime in October to introduce the public to the new site.

David Lind Executive Director
