NDP CANDIDATE CELIA ROSS

NDP Candidate in Sault Ste. Marie, Celia Ross, celebrated the support from public elementary and secondary educators and support staff represented by OSSTF/FEESO District 2 and the Algoma District ETFO.

“We will ensure that the province’s schools are adequately funded to provide students with the programs and services they need. Parents need to be able to have faith in our schools, and educators need to receive the respect they deserve,” said Ross. “It’s time to restore trust.”

“With Bill 115, the Liberals sold out educators and our children by imposing contracts that did nothing to address chronic issues that affect both students and educators, like class sizes and supports for students with special needs.”

New Democrats will hire an additional 1,000 Educational Assistants to ensure that all kids can get the help they need to succeed in the classroom.

The NDP plan places a strong emphasis on student health, while investing in nutrition programs so that children begin their days and their lives with a healthy start.

In addition to attacking educators’ democratic right to free collective bargaining, Ross noted that local Liberals vilified and misrepresented the concerns of educators to local media during the dispute, portraying them as greedy and fixated on wages, while better conditions for both students and educators were the true principal focus of negotiators.
