Tarbutt man faces threatening, weapons charges

TARBUTT TOWNSHIP – On Sept. 29, 2016 at 2:40 p.m., the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a complaint regarding a male with a weapon in the Smith Road area of Tarbutt Township. 

Police attended the area and one male was taken into custody. As a result, Mathew Sprague, 24 years of age from Tarbutt Township, Ontario was charged with:

  • Utter Threat, contrary to Section 264.1(1)(a) of the Criminal Code,
  • Possess Weapon for Dangerous Purpose, contrary to Section 88 of the Criminal Code,
  • Unauthorized Possession, contrary to Section 91(1) of the Criminal Code, and
  • Careless Use of a Firearm, contrary to Section 86(1) of the Criminal Code.

The accused is scheduled to appear in Court on Sept. 30, 2016 in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.
