Superior Heights teacher turns staff members into Jurassic Park roller coaster for Halloween (video)

It was quite the sight

“2020 has been such a roller coaster of a year.”

That from Andrea (Stone) Pietramale, a Superior Heights Collegiate teacher.

Turning that roller coaster theme into one to be celebrated and not lamented during the COVID pandemic, Stone organized a fun event for her school’s community Thursday.

“This year, I organized our staff to be involved in a Jurassic Park roller coaster ride,” Stone told SooToday.

“We had approximately 18 people in our ride and we rode a coaster all throughout the school and even down the sidewalk. We had a blast. Kids were cheering and cars were honking. We really did make the best of it!”

Apart from Thursday’s roller coaster event, Stone organized a week of fun Halloween activities for Superior Heights, Monday marking Spirit Wear Day, Tuesday as Orange and Black Day, Wednesday as 80s Day, Thursday as Group Day (groups of two or more students dressing up in group costume themes while social distancing and wearing masks) and Friday being Singles Day.

“I’m usually the teacher that leads Halloween celebrations, it’s kind of my thing, but I went a little bit bigger this year,” Stone chuckled.

In past years, while teaching at White Pines Collegiate, Stone encouraged students to dress up as pirates with White Pines Wolverines eye patches she designed (‘Pirates of the Pines’), then while teaching at Korah Collegiate, organized a ‘Korah Cowboys and Cowgirls’ dress up day, followed by a day with a Minions dress up theme.

“It just makes you feel like a kid again. Halloween’s the one time of year when you can dress up and be silly and not worry about what other people think. When I first started teaching, I couldn’t believe how many people don't get  dressed up and I thought ‘really? This is so much fun’ and that’s when I started coming up with group themes.”

As for Stone, she chose to dress up as Waldo of Where's Waldo? fame Friday.
