Sunday market raises money for Jamestown youth

The 2nd annual Jamestown Strong West End Vendor Show runs until 4 p.m. at The Rink next to the Machine Shop

Around 25 vendors are at The Rink next to the Machine Shop this afternoon for the 2nd annual Jamestown Strong West End Vendor Show.

Featuring a variety of makers and small business owners from across the area, the market is raising money for community youth events held in Jamestown, including the annual Sal’s Summer Kids Day in July.

Born and raised in Jamestown, event coordinator Shauna Wilson says her neighbourhood continues to face a number of unique challenges which makes showcases like this one all the more important.

“It’s a struggling neighbourhood; we witness things on a daily basis that we shouldn’t have to,” she says. “We’ve been promised revitalization and all kinds of different things, and it hasn’t happened.”

“So today is about making it fun for the residents and to be proud of their neighbourhood. We have so much support from inside and outside our community – it’s been amazing.”

The Jamestown Strong West End Vendor Show is running at The Rink until 4 p.m.
