NEWS RELEASE
GOULAIS FIRE AND RESCUE
*************************
Goulais Fire and Rescue was dispatched to an active house fire on Anglican Church Road at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 17.

Automatic Aid from the Aweres Fire Department was activated at the same time, and members from both departments responded to the scene.

Upon arrival crews found heavy fire conditions in the attic of the home and mounted an aggressive interior attack. Unfortunately, efforts to control the fire were not initially successful and firefighters had to take up a defensive exterior attack position.

Additional tanker support from Batchawana Bay, Searchmont and Sault Ste. Marie were all called for assistance. Freezing temperatures and deep snow hampered firefighting and water supply efforts, but the fire was eventually brought under control.

All together, 30 firefighters and 10 emergency vehicles were utilized to fight this stubborn fire.

The home sustained heavy damage and is uninhabitable at this time. No injuries were reported.

Goulais Fire and Rescue would like to thank our mutual aid partners for their hard work and assistance at this event.
