UNITED STEELWORKERS

*************************
The United Steelworkers (USW) is pleased to announce that it is a Platinum sponsor of Sault Pridefest, Sault Ste. Marie’s first pride festival.

“For decades Steelworkers at all levels of our union have fought for human rights and equality in our workplaces and in our communities,” said Marty Warren, the USW’s Ontario Director.

“We are proud and honoured to play a key role in supporting Sault Ste. Marie’s first pride festival and to help it become a successful, annual event,” Warren said.

Sault Pridefest, to be held September 5-7, is being organized by Sault Pride, a social network that has worked relentlessly to promote inclusivity and to eliminate homophobia and transphobia in the community.

The Sault Steelworkers Community Services Committee welcomed the opportunity to sponsor the community’s first pride festival, said USW Area Co-ordinator Jack Ostroski.

“We are pleased to sponsor an event that embraces diversity and promotes understanding and respect in our community,” Ostroski said. “We encourage our members, retirees and their families to participate in this community festival.”

“We have been actively working to develop a strong presence in our community,” said Sault Pride representative Helen Scott. “The tremendous support of the United Steelworkers will help to achieve this goal and to celebrate the wonderful diversity within our community.”
