The puck dropped on Thursday for the city's largest hockey tournament, the 24th Annual Steel City International Hockey Tournament.

For those suffering through withdrawal symptoms due to the lack of NHL hockey, this weekend's action is sure to provide some temporary relief.

Over 140 games will be played out over the course of the weekend with teams visiting from all parts of Ontario and the United States.

Teams will be competing for the coveted championships in the midget and bantam AAA major and minor divisions along with the midget and bantam AA divisions.

The Soo North Stars opened the tournament on Thursday afternoon with a textbook defensive performance in a 2-0 victory over Michigan's Ojibawa Eagles.

Meanwhile, the Bantam AAA Major Soo Greyhounds walked all over Marathon's North Shore Mercs 13-0 while the Soo Thunder AAA Bantam Minors rolled past the Wawa Travellers 16-0.
