********************** Barricaded person taken to hospital

(Iron Bridge, Ontario) - On Nov. 2, 2004 at approximately 2:30 p.m., the East Algoma OPP responded to a call that an armed man had barricaded himself in a residence on Highway 546, north of Iron Bridge, Ontario.

The East Algoma OPP, along with members of the North East Region Emergency Response Team (ERT), London Tactical Response Team, (TRU), North East Region Crime Unit, Crisis Negotiator Team and North East Region Command Staff attended the scene.

Residents in the immediate vicinity along Highway 546 and Warnock Road were evacuated from their homes for safety reasons.

At approximately 3:15 a.m. on Nov. 3, 2004, officers entered the home and found a male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

He was transported by ambulance to the Blind River Hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

Residents of the area have returned to their homes.

Because the area was secured by the police at the time of the man’s injuries, the province’s Special Investigations Unit has been notified and will be investigating.
