No, the Washington sniper wasn't here for Thanksgiving.

But you might almost have gotten that impression from an overnight wire service story about a "gunfire" incident in the Sault.

What the wire copy didn't indicate was that the incident involved only a man shooting at Bellevue Park squirrels with an air-powered pellet gun.

Police rushed to secure an area around Queen and Lake Streets around 2 p.m. yesterday, but the situation was quickly resolved and a Queen Street man was charged with disobeying a City bylaw that prohibits the discharging of rifles or air rifles inside the City limits.
