Speers named to all-rookie team

Soo Greyhounds forward Blake Speers has been named to the Ontario Hockey League’s all-rookie first team.

The Sault Ste. Marie native took the honour of being named first team right wing as the OHL announced the all-rookie teams earlier today along with the rookie of the year award.

Ottawa 67’s forward Travis Konecny, who was the first all-rookie team centre, was named the league’s rookie of the year.

Konecny finished ahead of London Knights forward Mitchell Marner and Barrie Colts forward Andrew Mangiapane.

The first all-rookie team includes:

  • Centre – Travis Konecny, Ottawa
  • Left Wing – Andrew Mangiapane, Barrie
  • Right Wing – Blake Speers, Sault Ste. Marie
  • Defence – Travis Dermott, Erie
  • Defence – Mitchell Vande Sompel, Oshawa
  • Goaltender – Mackenzie Blackwood, Barrie

The second team featured:

  • Centre – Mitchell Marner, London
  • Left Wing – Lawson Crouse, Kingston
  • Right Wing – Nick Magyar, Kitchener
  • Defence – Stefan LeBlanc, Mississauga
  • Defence – Sean Day, Mississauga
  • Goaltender – Matthew Mancina, Guelph
