After reviewing our performance during this week's power outage, SooToday.com has today launched a new emergency web page to be used whenever our main site is disabled by a major power failure or similar civic emergency.

The back-up page is based in Texas, which we hope is far enough away that it will not be affected by any problem that causes us grief here in Sault Ste. Marie.

The address for the new page is not SooToday.com, and we're asking all readers to visit the emergency page today and bookmark it for future reference.

To visit http://Emergency.SooToday.com/ now, please click here.

On Thursday night, the batteries on our server failed about four hours after the lights went out, making it impossible for users of battery-powered laptop computers to access our site.

In the event of future emergencies, SooToday.com will proceed immediately to the local Emergency Measures Committee communications base and make our new page available to instantly transmit updates as they're released.

To read a very active discussion about the performance of local media in the blackout, and the rationale behind our new emergency page, please refer to the NewsBlogger feature located at the very bottom of our Editorial page. Go there now
