SooToday.com afflicted by fall foliage fetish

A number of Saultites who've moved to less "gifted" parts of the planet have asked SooToday.com to post photos of the fall foliage. We thought it was a great idea, not only for them, but also for those locals who don't get out much.

A number of Saultites who've moved to less "gifted" parts of the planet have asked SooToday.com to post photos of the fall foliage.

We thought it was a great idea, not only for them, but also for those locals who don't get out much.

So over the next few weekends, time permitting, we're going to show you how the leaves are doing.

The Ontario Travel Centre in Barrie advises that the Sault Ste. Marie area has had a 40 percent colour change so far.

To see a SooToday.com Big Picture of the leaves (and to see who we met in the bush), please click here.

The following is the Ontario Travel Centre's latest Fall Colour Report:

************************** Northern Ontario

There is little change, less than 15%, across the Northwestern region of Ontario at this time.

In the Sault Ste. Marie and Agawa Canyon regions, there is an approximate 40% colour change with muted reds and some splashes of orange and gold.

The Agawa Canyon Train Tour is very popular so now is the time to book your tickets for this spectacular fall colour tour.

There is no significant colour change in the majority of the Northeastern regions of the province.

In Algonquin Park, there is about a 20% colour change at the east end, with light reds and oranges and now bits of yellow are beginning to show.

At the west end of the park, the colour change has progressed to 35% - there are mainly oranges and reds with bits of yellow now showing nicely with the rich greens.

In a short period of time the Algonquin Park Visitor Centre will be an ideal viewing location for fall colour.

There is no significant colour change in the Minden-Haliburton region, but in a few weeks the fire tower lookout near Dorset on Hwy 35 will also be an outstanding fall colour location.

In the Muskoka region, fall colour is slowing progressing – the south is showing about 5% colour – dark and lighter reds – as is the Port Carling area with about 25% change, mainly reds.

There is about a 15% change in the Huntsville area in variations of red also. Some pockets of orange are evident throughout the region.

The balance of the province including the Ottawa region, Eastern Ontario region, Central Ontario region, Niagara Falls area, Southwestern Region and the Greater Toronto area have no significant colour change as yet.
