Lori Amendola, co-chair of the Sault Ste. Marie Easter Seals Telethon, told SooToday Sunday afternoon that everyone involved in this year’s event had good energy that boosted the overall positive vibe of the 35th annual fundraiser.

And despite the less than favourable economic climate in the region, our residents managed to connect with their generous side.

“Year after year, this city always steps up to the plate and donates and donates what they can. I wouldn’t think that Sault Ste. Marie would do anything different this year,” Amendola said.

Some of those donors are smaller than you might think. Take Eden Bishop and Samuel Phaneuf, for example. The two six-year-olds are part of mademoiselle Mariano’s class at Francis H. Clergue, and happily delivered their class’s contribution to the cause.

The pair said they were happy to be at the Telethon and would love to be involved again. But they were also eager to get to their waiting classmates to enjoy a well-deserved celebratory pizza party.

This year’s Telethon raised more than $100,000 in support of Easter Seals. Children in our community benefit each year from the annual event and other locally hosted Easter Seals initiatives, including Snowarama. Donations assist children with physical disabilities by funding mobility equipment, communication devices, Northern Health Travel Grants, and Easter Seals Kids Camps.
