Soccer tournament raises money for Neighbourhood Resource Centre (5 photos)

'3 On 3 for NRC' brings in fundraising dollars through pledges, donations

A dozen soccer teams participated in the ‘3 On 3 for NRC’ fundraising tournament at Sault College and St. Basil’s Catholic School Sunday.

All proceeds from the soccer tournament will go to the Neighbourhood Resource Centre on Gore Street.

The event, organized by the public relations and event management program at Sault College, is now in its second year.

“The community has been extremely generous,” said Sault College student Jerret Semczyszyn. “We’ve had many sponsors, many people contribute both monetary and in-kind, and we’ve worked extremely hard to fill the tournament as best we can.”

The tournament, which collects monetary pledges from all participating teams, has raised more than $1,000 in sponsorship money alone.

“It’s a great experience for us to get hands-on learning experience for both planning and organizing events, and for us, this is a great opportunity because we get to raise funds for an organization that can really use the money right now,” said Semczyszyn. “Obviously with the drug crisis that’s spreading through our city right now, it’s a very worthy cause and we’re excited to contribute to an organization that helps combat that.”
