New development is rare in Sault Ste. Marie these days, so one gets curious upon seeing what appears to be a new, large commercial development taking shape at the corner of Second Line East and Old Garden River Road.

A strip mall, owned and being constructed by Sault developer Joe Ruscio and other local partners, will open at that location in the near future.

Ruscio told SooToday the 10,000 square foot yet-to-be-named strip mall will include a larger space for a pharmacy, with two smaller spaces for a spa and eatery.

Ruscio said a fourth tenant may eventually move in.

Construction of the building began in earnest this spring.

Ruscio said he anticipates a late summer opening for the strip mall.
