The Desbarats and Richard's Landing areas are crawling with OPP cruisers this afternoon after a daring armed robbery at a credit union on St. Joseph Landing.

OPP confirm that a lone, armed male left the Northern Credit Union at Richard's Landing around 11:30 a.m.

SooToday.com has received an unconfirmed report that the man fled across the ice in a westerly direction, wearing a blue jacket with black helmet.

The snowmobile is reported to be blue and is said to be carrying a dark bag.

**************************** Armed robbery in Richard’s Landing, St. Joseph Island

(Richard’s Landing, Ont.) The East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police are currently investigating an armed robbery that occurred at the Northern Credit Union in Richard’s Landing.

Police received the report of the robbery at approximately 11:30 a.m. on Thursday 18 Mar 04.

Information thus far is that there was a lone male brandishing a firearm who left the scene on a motorized snow vehicle.

It is unknown at this time which direction the culprit was heading when he left.

No injuries were reported and no further details are being released at this time but will be forthcoming when more investigation has taken place.
