*********************** Snowsquall warning for Searchmont - Montreal River Harbour - Batchawana Bay - Agawa - Lake Superior Park- Wawa - Pukaskwa Park - White River - Dubreuilville

5:50 AM EST Thursday 8 December 2005

Snowsqualls off Lake Superior expected to weaken late this afternoon.

This is a warning that snowsqualls are imminent or occurring in these regions.

Monitor weather conditions. Listen for updated statements.

Snowsqualls have developed in the southwesterly flow off Lake Superior.

At 5.30 AM EST Montreal River radar indicates the strongest squall is along Highway 17 from Pancake Bay Provincial Park to Montreal River and thence northeastward.

The strong radar echoes indicate heavy snow and reduced visibility.

Snowsqualls will persist most of the day but will weaken later this afternoon as an area of subsidence moves over the region.

Snowfall amounts of 10 to 15 centimetres are likely with these snowsqualls with higher amounts possible under the heaviest bands.

In addition southwesterly winds gusting to 50 km/h may also result in local blowing snow in exposed areas near Lake Superior.

Motorists should exercise much caution and be prepared to adjust travelling plans accordingly.

Driving conditions will continue to deteriorate overnight and may be hazardous at times from low to nil visibility in heavy snow and local blowing snow.
