ONTARIO SECONDARY SCHOOL
TEACHERS' ASSOCIATION

Thank an education support staff worker today

ALGOMA DISTRICT - Today, the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation that represents members employed by the Algoma District School Board and the Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board, joins with others across Ontario during Education Week to recognize and celebrate the valuable contributions made by Educational Support Staff workers in their schools and to their students, said Sharon Indrevold, District President.

OSSTF founded the first Education Week in Ontario 84 years ago to celebrate the excellence found in public education.

It is natural, that as part of that week, we acknowledge the contribution of educational support staff.

Classrooms are much more than four walls with students in desks and teachers at the front of the room.

It takes a complete Team to educate students today and provide them with the skills, resources and supports they need to be successful.

It is because of the hard work and dedication of these education Teams in the schools today that ensures a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for the learning for all students.

Educational assistants, secretaries, early childhood educators and professional personnel, to name a few, all contribute to the well-being of our students.

They provide essential and necessary supports for our special needs students.

All too often their efforts are lost in the daily routines of the classrooms but today we applaud their commitments to the students they work with on a daily basis.

“It is fitting that we recognize that the whole school is a classroom and that it takes the efforts of many individuals to ensure that students’ needs are met within our educational system. We ask that all Ontarians, especially students and parents, help us celebrate Support Staff Appreciation Day on May 7 by expressing their gratitude to all educational support staff workers for the role they play in inspiring confidence in our students and helping them develop the skills that they will need in the future,” concluded Indrevold.
