SAULT STE. MARIE MP TERRY SHEEHAN

Sault MP Terry Sheehan has announced, on behalf of the Government of Canada, $11,000 in funding from in support of the Second Annual Grandmothers Against Human Trafficking Gathering being held this week, in Sault Ste. Marie.

“I am so pleased that the Government of Canada saw fit to approve our funding request in support of this remarkable initiative. We all need to become more educated about human trafficking. We need to find ways to understand and prevent these ongoing assaults on some of the most vulnerable members of our communities, through advocacy, education, cultural teachings and healing practices,” MP Sheehan said.

This extraordinary initiative is organized and hosted by a group of local Indigenous Grandmothers, or Nookimisuk. The Anishinaabe worldview respects grandmothers as authorities, educators and keepers of cultural and foundational laws.
