NEWS RELEASE

SAULT STE. MARIE & DISTRICT LABOUR COUNCIL

************************
Every year on Apr. 28, the National Day of Mourning, labour organizations across Canada honour and remember all workers who have been killed or critically injured while on the job, including workers who have died from an occupational disease.

We as a society, know that it is unacceptable that 1,000 workers are killed across Canada every year for simply trying to make a living to support their families. Thousands more are critically injured or suffering from the slow death of an occupational disease.

Apr. 28 is an important and solemn day for all of us. We gather at ceremonies to take time to mourn the dead but it is also a time to once again commit to fight for the living.

We invite the community of Sault Ste Marie to a Commemorative Service at the Grand Gardens (68 Dennis Street) at 11 a.m. on Friday, Apr..28, 2017. Refreshments will be served following the ceremony.

We encourage flags to be flown at half-mast and that people everywhere observe a minute of silence at exactly 11 a.m.

Join to recognize victims of workplace accidents and disease as we remember to Fight for the living and Mourn for the Dead.
