Serious incident on Fourth Line. SIU called to investigate (7 p.m. update)

7 p.m. update

The Ontario Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has stated via Twitter that it has been called "to investigate death of a man on Fourth Line in Sault Ste Marie. More details to come."

2:35 p.m. update

Armstrong reports the body of the male is partially under a pickup truck with what appears to be a long gun by his side.

A witness told SooToday they observed a pickup truck traveling at very high speed towards the scene of the incident prior to Armstrong's arrival.

Original 2:20 p.m. information

SooToday received a news tip regarding a heavy police presence on Fourth Line east of Goulais Avenue earlier this afternoon.

SooToday reporter Kenneth Armstrong reported from the scene that the body of what appeared to be a deceased male could be seen from the road.

More than half a dozen Sault Ste. Marie Police Service vehicles were present at the time and officers told Armstrong the identity of the male is unknown.

A Police Forensics Unit is currently at the scene.
