Serious highway crash at city limits (12 photos)

4:05 p.m.

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service would like to advise the public that the intersection of Trunk Road and Highway 17 East is now fully open. 

As the intersection was closed for several hours, traffic is backed up in both directions and is moving very slowly. Officers will remain on scene as the traffic clears.

3:54 p.m. update:

A business near the scene tells SooToday that traffic is now moving in both directions, although slowly.

12:18 p.m. update:

City police are asking the public to avoid the area and use alternate routes to allow emergency workers to work safely.

12:05 p.m. original story:

At least three vehicles were involved in a serious collision this morning at the intersection of Highway 17 and 17B at the city's eastern city limit.

Firefighters, paramedics and police are on scene.

Traffic on Trunk Road is backed up to the Husky.
