The intersection of Second Line and North Street is now reopened to traffic, says Sault Ste. Marie Police Service.

Police say the victim of the crash was an 85-year-old male and that the crash occurred at about 4:20 p.m.

He was the lone occupant in the vehicle he was driving eastbound on Second Line toward North Street.

While attempting to turn north onto North Street, his vehicle collided with a tractor-trailer that was travelling westbound on Second Line.

"We know that the tractor-trailer had a green light," said police Media Relations Officer Const. Sonny Spina.

The driver of the passenger vehicle involved in the crash had to be extricated and transported to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, Spina said.
