OPP NEWS RELEASE

************************************** Body recovered in Albany River

(Cochrane, Ontario) - The Cochrane Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police investigated a report of a capsized canoe on August 10, 2004 in the community of Kashechewan.

At 4:30 p.m. August 10, 2004 NISHAWBE- ASKI- POLICE SERVICE responded to a report of a capsized canoe south of Kakago Island on the Albany River.

Michael Wesley along with two other men were fishing on the Albany River.

The three were travelling south by canoe when they experienced rough water and high waves.

The canoe capsized, two occupants were able to swim to shore, however, Michael Wesley was unable to swim to shore and disappeared. A swift and immediate response from the community along with a search and rescue unit from the Attawapiskat First Nation saw approximately 37 boats and 150 searchers in the area.

At 7:20 a.m. on August 11th, searchers located the body of 25-year-old Michael Wesley.
