Sayers re-elected as Batchewana First Nation chief

Batchewana First Nation members elect chief, councillors after going to the polls Wednesday

Dean Sayers has been re-elected as chief of Batchewana First Nation after community members went to the polls Wednesday. 

A total of 424 votes were cast for Sayers, handily defeating candidates Teala Nadjiwon (194 votes) and Peter Sewell (167 votes). 

Eight councillors were elected by community members Wednesday:    

  • Greg Agawa
  • Harvey Bell 
  • Luke McCoy
  • Mark McCoy
  • Gary Roach 
  • Melissa Sayers
  • Trevor Sayers Sr. 
  • Ann Tegosh

A total of 43 candidates were in the running for council. Two candidates for council withdrew from the race.
