Command of the 49th (Sault Ste. Marie) Field Regiment, Royal Canadian Artillery will pass from Lt.-Col. Lance Knox, CD, to Lt.-Col. Robert Lambert, CD, at a parade on Saturday, March 2 at 2 p.m. in the Sault Ste. Marie Armoury.

Lt.-Col. Lambert is well qualified to take command of the “Sault’s Regiment”, a Reserve Army unit with a long and proud history of service to Canada. Enrolling in 1997 as an Officer Cadet, he began progressing through many key artillery courses and appointments.

He recently completed the two-year Joint Command and Staff Program from the Canadian Forces Staff College in Toronto and is currently working on a Master of Defence Studies through Royal Military College in Kingston. 

Lt.-Col. Lambert is a mathematics teacher at Korah Collegiate and Vocational School and is a Bachelor of Science graduate of Algoma University, and Bachelor of Education graduate of Nipissing University. He is one of the senior coaches of the undefeated Korah Colts football team, the 2018 National Capital Bowl OFSSA champions.     

In handing over command of his Regiment, Lt.-Col. Knox completes a reserve army career that saw him rise through the ranks from private to Regimental Sergeant Major and then to Commanding Officer during his almost 40 years of service. His career also saw him serve in Afghanistan in 2010 as the second-in-command of the Civil-Military-Cooperation Company.

The 49th (Sault Ste. Marie) Field Regt RCA is part of the Canadian Forces Reserve Force tasked with training its 100 plus members to provide indirect artillery fire in support of Army operations, augmenting Canada’s Regular Force. The Regiment is part of 33 Canadian Brigade Group, 4th Canadian Division.

The Reviewing Officer is Col. J.M. Valtonen, CD, Commander 33 Canadian Brigade Group. The Regiment’s Honourary Colonel Clyde Healey, CD will also attend the parade.
