Sault Theatre Workshop cleans up at QUONTA

The 60th annual drama festival took place in Timmins this past weekend

This past weekend, the Sault Theatre Workshop and its production of Lucy enjoyed great success during the 60th annual QUONTA  Drama Festival in Timmins.

Joining productions from Gore Bay Theatre and the host community’s Take Two Theatre, performances were adjudicated by Karen Rickers. All three companies chose Canadian plays for entry into the drama festival in order celebrate 150 years of theatre in Canada.

During Sunday’s brunch and awards ceremony, the Sault Theatre Workshop took home seven of the eight awards:

  • Adjudicator Award Sound Design - Michael Cuthberson, Sault Theatre Workshop
  • Adjudicator Award Set Design and Execution - Bill Viertelhausen, and John and Deborah Hawke, Gore Bay Theatre
  • Adjudicator Award Set Design and Execution - Phil Jones, Fred McKey and Rick Mooney, Sault Theatre Workshop
  • Outstanding Supporting Actor - Michael Hagerman, Sault Theatre Workshop
  • Outstanding Supporting Actress - Michelle Goulet, Take Two Theatre
  • Outstanding Actor in a Leading Role - Mark Daniher, Sault Theatre Workshop
  • Outstanding Actress in a Leading Role - Calista Jones, Sault Theatre Workshop
  • Outstanding Director - Randi Mraud, Sault Theatre Workshop
  • Outstanding Production - Sault Theatre Workshop

With its win for Outstanding Production, the Sault Theatre Workshop will now head to Ottawa for the Theatre Ontario Festival held May 17 through 21.
