‘Contour’, ‘jack’, and ‘lapel’ were only some of the words that Walter Baker and Shirley Downes of Sault Ste. Marie revealed on their Instant Crossword (Game #3227) ticket to win a $50,000 top prize.

Shirley, a 68-year old retiree, and her brother Walter, a semi-retired 64-year old, often play Instant tickets together and love to go to the casino.

Shirley, a mother of four, scratched their ticket at home.

“I called Walter and said, you’d better get over here! He asked what was wrong and I said, we just won $50,000,” she recalled, while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to pick up their cheque.

“I thought she was lying to me,” laughed Walter, a father of eight.

The siblings each have plans of their share of the winnings. Shirley plans to buy a Hyundai Santa Fe and Walter will leave the decision making to his wife.

“I was so shocked I was sick, and Walter is still in disbelief,” Shirley concluded.

Instant Crossword is available for $3 a play and the top prize is $50,000. Odds of winning any prize are one in 3.23.

The winning ticket was purchased at Station Mall Drug Mart on Bay Street in Sault Ste. Marie.
