Sault Ste. Marie District Social Services solidifies its commitment to put an end to homelessness by joining the Canadian Alliance to End Homelessness’ 20,000 Homes Campaign.

The campaign supports a grassroots non-partisan advocacy effort to build public support for ending homelessness and political support for renewed federal and provincial investment in housing and support services. The campaign was inspired by the successful 100,000 Homes Campaign in the United States.

This powerful nationwide campaign aims to permanently house 20,000 of Canada’s most vulnerable homeless people by July 1, 2020.

As part of the campaign, Social Services will begin monthly reporting of non-identifiable local data to aid 20,000 Homes with their mandate.

“The 20,000 Homes campaign aligns directly with our local 10 year Housing and Homelessness Plan. Data shared and received will aid both our community effort to end homelessness in Sault Ste. Marie, and on a greater level nationwide.” said Jeff Barban, Director of Housing Services.

The City of Sault Ste. Marie is the 38th community in Canada to participate this movement.
