Sault gets Naked (217 photos)

Rolling Stone magazine has called her "a dark-haired stick figure" who's also "a renegade, bold and beautiful to the core."

Beanpole punk rocker Bif Naked will be in Sault Ste. Marie on Saturday, May 22 when her Naked Aggression Tour plays the Canadian.

Concert promoter Brendan Fyfe, who nailed the booking today, tells SooToday.com that tickets will be $12 advance or $15 at the door.

Joining Naked on the tour are The Salads, Out of Your Mouth and Social Code.

Ages 19 and up. Doors open at 9 p.m. Show starts at 10.

Tickets available Saturday at Evolushun (Station Mall), CD Plus (Cambrian Mall) and the Canadian.

"Essentially Naked" (greatest & best of) collection of songs by the Canadian princess of punk Her Royal Majesty Bificus Nakedus hits stores June 24th.

Since the early 90's Bif Naked has churned the melting pot of Canadian music pushing the boundaries of acceptability with her conviction that anything goes and nothing can stop her.

In the mid 90's she emerged with the eponymous Bif Naked which struggled to find distribution after losing it's original label home.

This record went on to establish Ms Naked as the most exciting new artist on the Canadian Horizon and was released around the world to critical acclaim.

The screaming loud creative of Bif Naked could not be muzzled as she soon followed up with a blazing hot spoken word album called Okenspay Ordway - things I forgot to tell Mommy which one reviewer wrote "It's like being cornered by a drunk girl at a party with no means of escape."

Bif fans were rabid for it.

After many tours of Europe, USA and Canada Bif came roaring back in 1998 with I Bificus, breaking indie records at radio delivering a blistering set of rockers that lit up Much Music and MTV USA alike.

Track after track pounded the airwaves and Video channels while Bif Naked kris crossed North America and Europe with her legendary live performances.

In 2001 the "Purge" album was born, with tracks like "I Love Myself Today" and "Tango Shoes" paving the way for her 1st Juno nomination "Rock Album of the Year".

Essentially Naked is a celebration of 22 tracks that are historical in the yet unfolding career of one of Canada's most identifiable, visible and exciting independent artists.

Bif Naked’s smoldering sexy looks have been voted the top in the city, province, and nationally.

This year Bif Naked was voted by "TV Week" in the top 10 sexiest BC Celebrities, XFM named her the sexiest BC musician after an open polling on their radio.

CFOX just recently named Bif the hottest celebrity, they said it was a landslide win.

PURGE was Bif Naked’s 3rd full-length music album – follow up to 1999’s I Bificus was released in Candian record stores on Sept 3rd 2001.

As with I Bificus, PURGE was released in Canada a year prior to its release in America, and again, she has come with a infectious, sensitive, introspective, powerful, vicious, sometimes funny, and often riotous album that has gained Bif Naked rave reviews in her home country.

Since the Canadian release of PURGE, Bif has headlined two major tours of Canada, her lead off single became the feel good anthem of the fall months.

Bif was profiled this year on Much Music & CTV Networks as a leading Canadian Artist.

This was supported by her Nomination for PURGE in the Best Rock Album category at the Canadian Juno awards with co-nominees Nickleback, Sum 41 as well she was also the only female to be invited to play Edgefest Mainstage with headliners Tool on July 1st 2001 in Toronto.

Touring for the three years since I Bificus and following her MTV hi rotation (buzzworthy) introduction to America, Bif Naked has taken her live show to Europe, America and Canada including shows on Lilith Fair with Dido, Sarah McGlaughlin, Sheryl Crow, Chrissy Hyde, - Edgefest with Creed & The Foo Fighters, - Warped Tour with Sum 41, Green Day & Papa Roach and additional tourdates with Nickleback, The Cult and Kid Rock.

Bif has always been a favorite of X-Games devotees appearing first at the San Francisco Games in 1999, then at DV8 in Calgary the same year.

MTV promptly brought her into Las Vegas to host the MTV Sports and Music X Games on the roof of the Hard Rock Hotel.

Bif Naked performed across Canada headlining outdoor shows 15,000 – 20,000 at SnoJam Canada’s first touring X-Game x-traveganza.

On September 2000, Bif Naked entered into Her Royal Majesty’s Records Studio in Vancouver and began recording.

One of the most intense time periods of her life Bif was finally able to focus on making the recordings that she felt were mostly untouched by outside influences.

The result was according to Bif a cleansing - removal of sin. PURGE produced by Peter Karroll and Desmond Child was completed in May of 2001 a full nine months later.

When it was finally completed Bif Naked and ensemble breathed a heavy sigh of relief and set about putting normality back into their lives, creating PURGE was definitely all consuming.

For those of you who are not familiar with the Bif Story you might wonder what luck, karma, or stroke of fate plucked an orphaned infant girl from a 3rd world country and brought her on such a unique journey.

"Baby G" as is listed on her Indian birth certificate was born in New Delhi, India.

Her teen birth mother a Canadian girl immediately put the baby up for adoption leaving her in the hands of the Indian hospital staff when she was born.

From there she was literally handed into the arms of two American missionaries without documentation, who then spent the following two years trying to obtain the required papers to bring her back to the USA.

By an indirect route of Minnesota, Kentucky, and Manitoba, Bif (a nickname for Beth), landed in Vancouver, BC Canada where in 1996 she released her selftitled debut on her own indie label Her Royal Majesty’s Records.

This album was recorded for only seven thousand dollars and was picked up and licensed by labels worldwide.

In May 1997 she released a spoken word album entitled OKENSPAY ORDWAY 1 – aka THINGS I FORGOT TO TELL MOMMY.

The CD remained in the Canadian National College Charts for months, which was unprecedented.

But being unprecedented was a way of life for Bif Naked. She recorded I Bificus, her second music album.

The first single, Spaceman, made Canadian history, reaching #1 position on National Charts and #2 on the Billboard International Charts.

Spaceman was the highest rotated and performed independent song in the history of Canada.

European audiences were introduced to Bif Naked via five tours that took her from club showcases and media events to major festival stages.

Bif Naked’s high-energy show has won her rave live reviews, including being featured by the press as the surprise highlight of the SONORIA FESTIVAL in Italy and the CONCERT OF THE YEAR in Madrid.

Main stage appearances in Germany at ROCK IM RING and ROCK IM PARK had her appearing just prior to the SMASHING PUMKINS AND THE PRODIGY.
