Sault company eQOL gets funding to help dialysis patients

The provincial government is supporting eQOL, a company based in Sault Ste. Marie, with $100,000 in provincial funding to develop a mobile technology solution to help strengthen support for dialysis patients, David Orazietti MPP announced today.

“We recognize the importance of supporting the development of this unique software application that will enhance the quality of life for patients on dialysis and will have positive benefits for our health care system,” said Orazietti.

“Today’s announcement also reflects our government’s commitment to pursue growing sectors of the economy and support the creation of local jobs and new business opportunities in Sault Ste. Marie.”

eQOL is creating innovative solutions that enable people living with chronic conditions to care for themselves and transition out of a hospital setting. 

eQOL has created four new permanent jobs.

The provincial investment of $100,000 will assist in developing a product called DiCAT (Dialysis Platform for Communication, Assistance and Training), which is a mobile technology solution for independent/home dialysis that aims to simplify and reduce the intimidation that patients experience with this self-care process.

DiCAT consists of iPad and web-based applications that will provide enhanced connectivity, access to resources, and process management. DiCAT will promote a shift from in-centre care to care in the home, thus empowering patients, streamlining processes, and alleviating strain on hospital resources.

Since October 2003 the NOHFC has approved over $890 million, towards more than 5,848 projects, leveraging over $3.2 billion in investment. We are helping create or sustain over 22,915 jobs and work placements across the North.

In Sault Ste. Marie the NOHFC has approved over $78 million in funding for 756 different projects that helped maintain or create 2,559 jobs.
